A permanent home for elderly women with no one else. Free, for as long as they live.
As the school grew, socially conscious members of the public urged Velugu to take up a second neglected cause: elderly, destitute women abandoned by their families, left with nowhere to go. A multi facility care centre was opened in the same premises, and the first nineteen women were given a home — food, clothing, shelter, healthcare and affection.
The number soon grew. Today the oldage home lives in its own circular building on campus.
In every way these ladies have made themselves at home. We can learn from them traditional folklore, gardening tips, how to make pickles — wisdom that time may forget.
Serene and confident now, they spend their days at leisure, doing needlework, joining yoga sessions, celebrating festivals, and keeping a loving eye on the children next door.
The needs of our grandmothers, now in a safe and caring world after great deprivation, are spartan. They ask for so little:
Cover the complete care of one or more of our ladies — food, clothing, healthcare and her place in the home.
Festival feasts, birthday celebrations and outings are the surges of excitement their lives deserve.
Beddings, furniture, a television set — write to us and we will tell you what is top of the list.
Earn big smiles: all visitors are welcome. Come and meet these feisty ladies and share their good times. Plan a visit →
A vegetarian meal for all our elderly residents costs ₹1,000–1,500. A month of complete care for one resident is covered by a modest monthly gift.
