World Elders Day Celebrations at Velugu Old Age Home
The World Elders’ Day celebrations were held at Velugu Old Age Home, located in Ammacheruvumitta, Kollabylu Panchayat, Madanapalle Mandal.
As per the directives of the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), and the Integrated Program for Older Persons (IPOP), the World Elders’ Day event was conducted successfully.
The event began with Sweeti inviting the distinguished guests onto the stage. The guests of honor included N. Munigopala Krishna, President of Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Annamayya District, and State Vice President, Prof. Srinivasulu, Advisor, Y.S. Munirathnamayya, Retired Principal and Honoring President, K. Dhanalakshmi, Retired District Administrative Officer, M. Uday Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Velugu Old Age Home, Dr. Pula Venkata Ramana, Retired DM & HO, Manideep, MBBS – SV Medical College, Tirupati, Senior Advocate Husein Bee, Madanapalle Traffic ASI Chandrayya, and the staff of LV Prasad Eye Institute, including Yasmin (Counselor) and Shireen (Vision Technician). The staff welcomed the guests with flower bouquets.
The event was attended by the elderly residents of Velugu Old Age Home, Velugu Secretary M. Uday Mohan Reddy, Convener Bhagyalakshmi, Social Worker Geetha, Principal Leena Kumari, Warden Sweeti, staff members, and guests. The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a prayer song by Sarojamma, a resident of the old age home.
In his address, N. Munigopala Krishna stated that he would take the concerns of the elderly to the District Collector and commended the service of Velugu Secretary M. Uday Mohan Reddy and Convener Bhagyalakshmi for their outstanding contributions in caring for so many elderly people.
Dr. Pula Venkata Ramana shared that while medical treatment is important, the love and care provided at Velugu Old Age Home are equally healing.
Senior Advocate Husein Bee emphasized the need for nurturing children with values, and Madanapalle Traffic ASI Chandrayya mentioned that the mindset of the elderly is like that of children and that they should be treated with love and care. He expressed his joy at seeing the elderly residents, stating that it felt like seeing his own mother.
Convener Bhagyalakshmi shared that it was a blessing from God to serve the elderly and noted that many elders come to old age homes due to a lack of family support.
Sarojamma, a resident of the old age home, shared her life story and how she came to the Velugu Old Age Home. She expressed that she is happy and content at the old age home and wishes to spend her remaining days there.
A Laughing Club was organized, in which all the elderly participated with enthusiasm, bringing joy and laughter to the old age home.
This was followed by a cultural program where the elderly residents enthusiastically participated in various games and performances. The winners were awarded prizes by the guests.
At the end of the program, Velugu Secretary M. Uday Mohan Reddy and Convener Bhagyalakshmi expressed their gratitude to the distinguished guests by honoring them with shawls and mementos.
The staff members of Velugu Old Age Home were also recognized for their dedicated service, with M. Uday Mohan Reddy presenting them with shawls as a token of appreciation.
Social Worker Geetha thanked all the guests and participants for making the event a success. The celebrations concluded with a communal feast, marking the end of the World Elders’ Day.
Finally, recognizing the service of Velugu Old Age Home, Prof. Srinivasulu, Advisor, donated ₹5,000, K. Dhanalakshmi, Retired District Administrative Officer, donated ₹5,000, and Madanapalle Traffic ASI Chandrayya made a personal contribution as well.
